Racing: Torino 2006: Evgeni Dementiev (RUS) sprints for the silver medal at the end of the 50 km
In the final mass start over 50 km the race was decided in a thrilling finish on the home stretch - like nearly all races in Pragelato (ITA). Up until the last few kilometers the field was together and nobody could open a gap.
Not until the home stretch and in a dramatical finish was the Olympic victory certain for Giorgio di Centa (ITA) to the pleasure of the Italian spectators.
Evgeni Dementiev (RUS, Fischer) was in the leading group in the last lap. On the home stretch he beat the others due to a strong finish similar to his Olymic victory in the pursuit and won the silver medal.
With Anders Soedergren (SWE), Jiri Magal (CZE) and Mathias Fredriksson (SWE) there were a further three Fischer-athletes in the top ten.
