Uschi Disl (GER)

Racing: Torino 2006: Uschi Disl (GER) wins her obligatory Olympic Medal

Since 1992 in Albertville (FRA) Uschi Disl (GER, Fischer) has taken part in all Winter Olympic Games and come back with at least one medal in her luggage. This year it will be no different.

In todays mass start it didn`t look like it for a long time. The German had to compensate three missed shots in the tracks. After the last shooting session she went out of the shooting range in sixth place. But then she lit the turbo and beat the other athletes in the last long climb and won the medal she was looking for.

Uschi Disl was talking afterwards about her amazing final lap: "I didn`t race in the relay and that was the reason why I was a little bit fresher than the others on the final lap. When I passed Martina I saw that she was tired and she said to me: go and get your medal - and so I did. It was my big goal to win a medal, because at every Olympic Winter Games that I participated, I won a medal. The colour was not important. I`m completely happy with this bronze medal - for me it`s like gold!"

The Olympic victory was won by Anna Carin Olofsson from Sweden ahead of the German Kati Wilhelm.

With Olga Nazarova (BLR), Xiangying Liu (CHN), Ekaterina Dafovska (BUL) and Albina Akhatova (RUS) there were a further four Fisher-athletes ranked in the best nine.
